About

Peter Downs

Hi, I’m Peter Downs, a Canberra United supporter. What is going to be on this blog? Pretty much just match reports. I go to all home games (unless there’s a good reason not to), occasional away games and watch replays on Paramount+. I’ll post the match report a few days after each game.

I don’t profess to be a great writer. I do my best but I’m no Wordsworth or Barney Ronay (my favourite Guardian football writer). If you don’t like what I write, fair enough, don’t read it. The opinions here are mine and based on how I see the game. You might see it different. I hope you find them interesting and maybe funny, but I don’t expect you to agree with me.

Why am I doing this? For a few reasons. I like writing. I like football and Canberra United in particular. And I don’t think there’s anywhere near enough independent writing and discussion on women’s football generally, so rather than complain about it I thought I’d put up my hand and do it myself. I’m capable of developing my own blog and I’m prepared to pay for it!

A few rules. I encourage you to leave comments, join in the conversations and be active as a supporter. It all helps the club and fan base grow. But, as Kasey Chambers puts it, don’t be a dickhead! There is zero tolerance for disrespect on this blog, either to me or, more importantly, the players and staff of Canberra United. I’m pretty confident that Canberra United and women’s football supporters are a decent lot who want to just enjoy the game. It’s OK to be critical. It’s OK to have opinions. But please be respectful and positive. Humour is encouraged and sarcasm acceptable.

This blog will only be about football. This is an advertisement free zone. I do it as a volunteer.

So, thanks for taking part and reading this. Join in. Have fun and let’s get behind Canberra’s most important sporting team! And don’t argue with me on that 🙂
